My column this week involves a tragedy that, as a parent, I can't bear to think about for too long. It's just too heartbreaking to imagine. But this woman has somehow turned devastation into something that will make others' lives a bit easier during their own darkest days. The resiliency of the human spirit continually amazes me.

When I had Grace, the OB told me I had an unspecified infection in my placenta. So scary! I just can't imagine the pain.
