Calling all idiots

Looks like I'm going to be a two-time author! The same editor who worked with me on the "Pocket Idiot's Guide to Wedding Vows" has tapped me to do a second pocket guide, this one on Wedding Etiquette.

What would a woman who was an hour late to her own wedding know about wedding etiquette? Excellent question. I asked my trusted agent, Kim, how I'm supposed to write a book telling brides and grooms what they should and shouldn't do when I'm certainly no authority on the subject. She responded, simply, "Pretend." Thanks, Kim.

I'm once again collecting wedding stories for this book, so if you have any anecdotes or issues with your own nuptials that had to do with etiquette (Did you come up with a seating plan that ended up being disastrous? Do you have stepparents or other family members that made the wording on the invitations a bit tricky? Did you accept money for the wedding from your groom's mom, only to then be given a list of 20 strangers she insisted on inviting?), send 'em my way!

Congrats on the book gig....but when are you gonna write about something I can actually contribute to? Maybe the Idiot's Guide to Being Single in the Suburbs. Or the Idiot's Guide to Moving into a Duplex with your Parents. (Okay, that one hasn't happened yet, but it's pending...)

I got nothing -- I think I had one of the most typical weddings ever -- and not sure it was full of any etiquette. the only thing I can think of is -- it's okay to have an uneven number of bridemaids and groomsmen... that always drives me crazy when people ask someone they really don't want to ask to have even numbers -- WHY? :)

Where do I start. When Hank's mother asked Jesse to be a groomsmen and then told us he is in the wedding or how about when After Hank's mom was seated in the front pew, his Father and Stepmother got up, got chairs and sat them in front of the first pew.

Not to worry, I got lots more for ya.

Don't choose the most expensive bride's maid dress in the catalog!! I had to buy a $300 dress once, and I was a poor college student.
If you're the mother of the bride, don't start bossing people around. I'm not even engaged yet, and my mother's already copping an attitude because I prefer real flowers to silk! "Well, that's your decision, Heather. It's your life." Good grief.

Congratulations on the book Robyn!

I must have something to contribute, but at the moment, I am at a loss.

I'll think about it and get back to ya!
